Issue 47: Uncertain times and sociological knowledge Wed 22 Dec 2021 0

The 37 research networks play an essential role in the intellectual life of the ESA, as they provide a community of practice of international sociology and also play a key role in preparing the program of the large bi-annual ESA conference. Dr. Bernadette Brereton was elected to the Chair of the Council of Research Networks in September 2021 at ESA15. Speaking at the recent Executive Committee meeting, Dr. Brereton said: ‘as a member, then a vice co-ordinator, then a co-ordinator of Research Network 10 (Sociology of Education), I am well aware of the importance of the networks in promoting and engaging sociologists around the world in the activities of the ESA.’

At the Executive Committee meeting in October 2021, the decision was taken to allow research networks with outstanding funds (unspent during the pandemic restrictions) to apply to use these before the end of April 2022.  The decision was also taken to provide support of €2000 to each research network to support their research activities in the current term.  Speaking of these decisions, Dr. Brereton stated: ‘it is wonderful that the ESA is going to provide such financial supports to the networks in the current term and I am honoured to be able to help to provide this support.’
